Centralized Card Database

Transparent Lock Screen supports storing the RFID card database in a centralized network location and maintains a local cache on each computer. The centralized location must be a standard Windows file share.

The application has been tested with tens of thousands of RFID cards stored in the same database without any noticeable impact on unlock speed.

Centralized Location Security

In Active Directory environments

  • Administrators — Read and Write
  • Domain Computers — Read

In non-AD environments

  • Administrators — Read and Write
  • Everyone — Read

You can fine-tune which administrators have write access, but make sure all computers that use the database have read access.

Local Caching

Card data from the centralized location that has been used to unlock a computer is cached locally. This allows the same cards to unlock the computer even when the centralized share is temporarily unavailable. The cache is automatically updated as soon as access to the centralized location is restored and every 40 minutes thereafter.
