RFID Card Unlock
Transparent Lock Screen can be configured to unlock a computer using RFID cards. This feature requires an external RFID card reader connected to the computer.
RFID configuration menu is not available until an RFID card reader is connected and recognized by the system.
Device Support
Currently, Transparent Lock Screen supports RFID card readers from rf IDEAS.
All rf IDEAS models are supported except for Sonar, Ethernet, and Analyze series devices.
If you are interested in using RFID readers from other manufacturers, let us know.
Prerequisites and Data Storage
Below are the basics of what is stored and where during the RFID unlock process:
-
RFID card — contains only its unique identifier (card ID).
Transparent Lock Screen supports only static ID-based RFID cards. It does not support dynamic authentication methods (such as FIDO2 keys or NFC-based systems). For dynamic authentication cards, you can use vendor or third-party solutions that support Windows logon and unlock. -
RFID card reader — stores its own configuration on the device.
The configuration defines:- Supported card types
- Device behavior (for example, sound and LED indicators)
- Data format in which the card ID is sent to the system
You can change these settings using the rf IDEAS Configuration Utility, available free of charge on the rf IDEAS website.
Transparent Lock Screen does not impose any limitations on device configuration, but we recommend keeping the
Disable Keystrokes for SDKoption enabled. This is not required but helps prevent the reader from emulating keystrokes.
Before using the reader with Transparent Lock Screen, make sure it is configured to read the card types you intend to use.
